One Thousand Plants and Trees: The Evolution of the Amenity Deck at 888 at Grand Hope Park
How do you make people feel grounded when they’re standing eight stories above the streets of Downtown Los Angeles? This was the challenge that designers and landscape architects from CallisonRTKL and Studio-MLA faced when creating Park 888, the 30,000-square-foot private park that functions as the amenities deck for the new collection of Downtown LA apartments for rent from 888 at Grand Hope Park.
The designers took inspiration from the nearby San Gabriel Mountains when developing Park 888, constructing a green space that mimics the lower-mountain landscape via groves of trees and wandering paths that provide a verdant escape from the urban bustle below. The result is a green park studded with high-end amenities and panoramic Downtown LA views.
"To make a daily impact, it's important to support satisfying walks, healthful air quality, and a quiet life,” says Astrid Sykes, Senior Associate at Studio-MLA. “It's not so much about sustainability but about resiliency.”
CallisonRTKL and Studio-MLA brought together more than a thousand plants and 85 trees to achieve a network of greenery and connect the amenities to one another throughout the roof deck. The outdoor spaces include a resort-style pool surrounded by chaise lounges and private cabanas, a BBQ lounge, a dog park, and a cinema. Inside, residents will find a fitness center with Peloton bikes and a private yoga studio bathed in natural light from floor-to-ceiling windows.
If Park 888 sounds like somewhere you’d like to spend a few relaxing hours, you’re in luck because homes at 888 at Grand Hope Park are currently available for lease. With a refreshing suite of nature-inspired features and an unbeatable Downtown LA location just minutes from popular destinations like Disney Concert Hall and the Staples Center, 888 at Grand Hope Park represents the future of DTLA luxury rentals.
